Malaga
airport is the likely arrival point for your holiday in Benalmadena from
the UK, although Granada, Gibraltar and Seville can be utilised for
visits to other parts of the Costa del Sol and Andalucia. A few visitors
do come by private car, Eurolines coaches or train, utilising the
Eurostar service from London to Paris, an overnight train from there to
Madrid with a connection to Malaga. But the journey times of between 24
to 36 hours cannot compare with the two and a half to three hour flight
time by one of the many airlines that fly to Malaga from airports in the
UK and Ireland.
Forward
journeys from the airport to Benalmadena and Arroyo de la Miel can be
made by either taxi, (recommended if you have heavy luggage), train from
the airport station or hire car. There is now a new bus service from the
airport (service M128), serving Benalmadena Costa and Torrequebrada. Tmetable here.
The
airport taxi rank is usually well stocked. As you leave the arrivals
hall through a set of glass doors, bear to your right. The fare should
be in the region of 25 euro depending on the part of town your
accommodation is situated and also the day of the week.
The
new underground railway station opened on the 10th of September 2010.
When you leave the arrivals hall, walk straight ahead and you will see
signs with directions. Just follow the arrows. Photo here. This is just a provisional way of reaching the station as a direct route will soon be available from inside the airport.
The single fare to Benalmadena / Arroyo de la Miel is approx.1.50 euro and the journey takes 18 minutes. Timetable here.
On arrival at Benalmadena / Arroyo de la Miel station, taxis are
available outside to take you to your accommodation. The fare is approx.
6 or 7 euro for the central part of town, depending on the day of the
week. Outlying accommodations such as in Torrequebrada will cost around
double or more.
If
you are hiring a car, the company you are hiring from should send you
details regarding where and how to pick your car up, etc. Some companies
have agents meeting flights, and these will be seen holding up
nameboards as you leave baggage reclaim.
